about the scholarship
Kauaʻi Pride Parade & Festival promotes and celebrates peace, acceptance, and unity for everyone on our island, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, or background. Our first annual Pride Parade & Festival was held in 2019 and our first Pride Academic Scholarship was provided in 2022.
This year, three $1,500 awards are available in three focus areas:
1. Arts
2. STEM/Vocational/Technical
3. Activism/Advocacy
Applicants may choose to apply for one scholarship in one focus area only.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong connection to the LGBTQIA2s+ community. Applicants must reside on Kauaʻi at the time of application, or be based on Kauaʻi if attending school elsewhere. The award must be used by June 1, 2025.
Although previous applicants who were not awarded with Pride Scholarship Funds are encouraged to re-apply, previous pride scholarship awardees are not eligible to re-apply.
This award is to be used by individuals furthering their education through university, college, technical/vocational/trade school, or other various post-secondary programs.
One award will be reserved for students pursuing education in the arts; one award will be reserved for students pursuing education in STEM, vocational, or technical fields; and one award will be reserved for students pursuing education for activism/advocacy work.

Applicants are required to submit one electronic file of supplemental material(s) with their application that aligns with the focus area of their choice. NOTE: written submissions are limited to 500 words & video submissions are limited to 3 minutes. Guidelines on submissions for each of the focus areas below.
Arts | Anaina Hou: Supplemental materials may include but are not limited to: original music, poetry, photography, film, etc. that symbolize LGBTQIA2s+ PRIDE.
STEM/Vocational/Technical: Supplemental materials may include but are not limited to: original short essay, PowerPoint, or webpage centered on LGBTQIA2s+ studies or issues.
Activism/Advocacy: Supplemental materials may include but are not limited to: slideshow or photo collage demonstrating an applicant’s service to LGBTQIA2s+ community or op-ed/original oratory on LGBTQIA2s+ advocacy.
